0:00Fly the circuit.
Use a four-marker circuit to practise orientation, deliberate turns and a controlled return for an Advanced flight review.
This is a practice drill. The formal review has required exercises. Your reviewer briefs each task and assesses your performance.
0:14Brief the exercise.
Use a suitable authorized site and a surveyed practice area. Confirm markers, the clear boundary, weather and your alternate landing zone.
Walk the corners. Point out the pilot position and landing pad. Brief your observer, if used, on the stop call.
0:30Settle into a hover.
Complete aircraft-specific checks. Confirm the launch area is clear. Take off smoothly and establish a stable hover.
Check how the aircraft responds to small inputs. Maintain visual contact. Use a distant ground reference to recognise drift.
0:45Fly each leg.
Fly from A to B, turn and continue to C. Coordinate heading and ground track. Keep your scan moving between the aircraft and the area.
Continue to D and return to A. If your track drifts outside the plan, slow down and regain control while safe separation remains.
1:01Protect the landing area.
On the final leg someone steps into the planned landing area. What will you tell your crew, and where can you safely go?
Call off that approach. Maintain safe separation. Use a verified clear alternate when safe, following aircraft procedures and conditions.
1:17Debrief the contingency.
On the ground, simulate loss of the control link verbally. Before the next flight, verify the configured aircraft response for this site.
Explain the expected path, obstacles, communications and who to contact if the aircraft becomes a hazard. Debrief what you would change.
Examples are practice scenarios. Confirm current airspace, weather and aircraft instructions before each flight.
